Ford Transit facelift
Ford is undoubtedly one of the leaders in the commercial vehicle market. At last year's commercial vehicle exhibition in Hanover, the manufacturer presented the latest generation of Transit family cars.
The star of the German trade show was the 2-tonne modernized Transit with the first 48-volt light hybrid drive (mHEV) in this market segment.
Technology that makes life easier
The new Ford Transit is expected to appear on the market in mid-2019. The latest model changed the design of the front, it also received a completely new interior and a larger cargo space. The car, compared to the previous versions, is equipped with lighter and more economical EcoBlue diesel engines with a capacity of 2 liters , ensuring low operating costs. The car is available with four power variants, up to a maximum of 185 HP and 415 Nm of torque.
The vehicle has a completely new interior design borrowed from the latest Transit Custom version, along with dedicated information displays for the PHEV variant.
The car was filled with advanced technologies. They include, among others BLIS system (monitoring of the blind spot in the mirror) and Cross Traffic Alert (warning of oncoming vehicles from the right and left). There is also Active Park Assist (Active Park Assist) as well as a new, intelligent cruise control. The high-positioned rear camera with additional lighting and the front wide-angle camera were also considered. Thanks to the cameras, the driver can see every point around the vehicle.
The new Ford Transit is available for the first time with the Ford Pass Connect modem. The system offers, among other things, 4G WiFi access for ten devices and real-time traffic notifications sent directly to the car's satellite navigation system. When connected to the FordPass App on your phone, you can check that the car's door is closed and remotely close or open it. We also have the ability to check the location of the car on the map, thanks to which we can quickly and easily find the place where it has been parked.
Hybrid - Transit Custom PHEV
In commercial vehicles too, the future lies in the electric drive. The new Ford Transit Custom PHEV will receive an advanced hybrid system, whose task is to ensure a zero-emission driving range on routes of up to 50 kilometers.
The car was equipped with an EcoBoost gasoline engine with a capacity of only 1 liter . It is designed to extend the driving range. The EcoBoost engine works by recharging the on-board traction batteries when longer journeys between stops are required, during which charging from an external source is possible.
A real novelty is the compact, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery under the floor. Interestingly, despite the battery installed, the dimensions of the cargo space remain unchanged compared to the standard version of the van.
Will hybrids find their use in motorhomes? All signs in heaven and earth seem to support this option. Perhaps the hybrid will be just a step on the way to the electric motor. The entire automotive industry has chosen an ecological course and it seems that nothing will stop it.
Note that more and more motorhomes are already equipped with sets of solar panels that charge the batteries. Thanks to converters, we can get the electricity needed to power the devices. Maybe the next step will be cars with a hybrid engine? In the caravanning industry, customers are increasingly asking about the possibility of replacing diesel engines with an alternative power source. The main reason is the planned diesel driving bans in many European cities.
