Hobby and Challenger news at the Caravan Salon

Hobby and Challenger news at the Caravan Salon – main image

The Caravan Salon fair in Düsseldorf, as every year, was an opportunity to present new products in the industry. It is worth noting that the market of caravans, motorhomes, bodies and accessories is in top form and despite the stagnation announced last year, manufacturers and distributors are positive. The specific season and uncertainty related to the pandemic, as we already know, significantly influenced the way we define " safe holidays ", and this in turn translated into a record business for the industry. We are glad that dealer networks in Poland are developing dynamically, as customers gain not only choice, but also service support, which was so lacking in our country.

Safe and proven caravanning

Due to the European "boom", most producers are in vain to look for revolutionary novelties that would change the rules of the game - yes, several premieres will certainly attract attention and will be loud about them on the pages of our website soon, but as a rule, if business is going well, for obvious reasons, there is no need to reinvent the wheel and it is better to rely on proven solutions.

We hereby open our subjective overview of noteworthy novelties, focusing on key players and producers for the Polish market. For the "first fire" we will look at the novelties of the best-selling caravanning brand in our country - the Hobby brand, whose range of caravan and motorhome models is extremely impressive. For model year 2021, the introduction of 3 new models based on proven systems is planned - these are the 460SL, 620 CL (both models from the Excellent series) and 650 UFf from the Prestige series. This means that the model and system range has grown to an impressive 59 possible configurations.

As a reminder - the Hobby to Ontour caravan series for beginner caravanning enthusiasts, the family DeLuxe / DeLuxe Edition, Excellent as a series aimed mainly at traveling couples, up to models for demanding customers with "exclusive" names Excellence and Premium.

All models equipped with an LCD display are equipped as standard with the integrated remote management system of the HobbyConnect / HobbyConnect + on-board systems (from lighting, through the battery charge, to heating and air conditioning).

New models - which caught our attention. The two large 4-person models are very interesting, the longer of which - 650UFf has a separate bedroom and a shower cubicle. With a length of 832 cm and a width of 250 cm, the curb weight is only 1618 kg, and the GVWR 1900 kg (can be changed to 2200 kg if necessary). 620CL is a very similar proposal, but with a kitchen island, an integrated bathroom and two separate beds instead of a double bed. The smallest of the novelties - the Excellent 460 SL is a well-equipped, spacious model for the 2 + 1 family, which is compact and easy to maneuver (230 cm wide and 675 cm overall length), yet provides space and a practical layout with corner-placed bathroom and kitchen , a large wardrobe and a Super Slim Tower refrigerator with a capacity of up to 150 l. The factory GVM of 1350 kg (optionally up to 1500 kg) is a real value for most tugs and allows you to "fit" within the limit of 3.5 tons for the entire set.

Challenger - New for 2021

In the following season, the French brand Challenger decided to systematize its model lines and thus "opens" the rate with the Start-Edition series based on Fiat / Ford, then the VIP series with the Graphite model based on Fiat, and in the best equipped Premium series we will find the Graphite model based on Ford.

328GA.jpg

In 2021, the brand's model portfolio will feature new interior layouts, 337 GA and 328 GA. The 337 GA model offers a space planning solution that can prove to be a sought-after option for families and RV enthusiasts - it has long benches on both sides behind the cab and a folding table (in Challenger terminology called the "Smart Lounge") - in short, a lot of places to sit and hang out together. Of course, the seats for passengers are integrated with the couches, which enables safe travel for 4 people. A split bed in the back, from which you can easily "conjure up" a large bed, a huge cargo space, a bathroom placed in the middle and a practical kitchen with plenty of space for preparing meals are additional advantages of the model. As befits the Challenger brand, heating is carried out using the Truma E6D system, powered by diesel (6kW) or electrically (2kW). This vehicle can be ordered by customers on the basis of a Ford or Fiat (with a new 140 hp engine and a new 9-speed gearbox that collects very favorable reviews).

The 328GA model is almost identical in terms of layout, but in the rear it is equipped with a centrally placed queen size bed 160 cm wide. Both of the above models are smaller than 720 cm (Ford - 719 cm, Fiat - 716 cm).

Necessary in a motorhome - chargers and power adapters
The necessary elements of the motorhome's equipment include an electrician - batteries, generators or alternative energy sources, ensuring comfort and safety of the trip. There should also be a practical charger and power adapter on board the camping vehicle. What are their tasks? About it below!. Probably every motorhome owner has found out that the battery can play a trick at the least expected moment of the trip. It is worth remembering that it can be discharged both while the engine is running and when the vehicle is stationary. Hence, the systematic charging of the battery has a key impact on the smooth operation of the vehicle, and also on its service life. In order to avoid reducing the efficiency of the cell by excessive consumption or undercharging of the battery, it is worth remembering to purchase a special charger with a trickle charge function. In stores with camping accessories , we can find a wide range of chargers for motorhomes and caravans. Particularly noteworthy are the high-quality Dometic models from the Perfect Charge series, available in several current options (including 7A / 12V, 12.5A / 24V, 15A, 12V, 25A / 12V, 35A / 12V, 40A / 24V) . Modern motorhome chargers automatically adapt to the state of charge of the battery, have multi-stage charging technology and are equipped with a special start-stop function that ensures optimal charging of acid, gel and AGM batteries. The wide range of input voltage allows the charger to be used almost anywhere in the world. Thanks to special overload protection, these chargers do not adversely affect the battery life. Their compact and lightweight design with built-in space for cables makes them quick and hassle-free to install. Intuitive one-button operation is an additional advantage. When deciding to buy a motorhome charger, it is also worth taking a look at useful accessories. The sale includes, among others, remote controls and temperature sensors for chargers.
