We have described modular camping structures on Camprest.com several times. But the Swiss RoomBox beats most of the available solutions. Thanks to this system, we can turn almost any car into a camper - in 10 minutes!

What is the uniqueness of the Swiss RoomBox? Contrary to appearances, there are many distinguishing features. At first, it may seem like a system like any other. Each box contains camping accessories , such as a sink, faucet, water tank, heater, etc. But usually a given system is designed for a specific car model. So modules that fit, for example, the Renault Kangoo, will not be useful in the Volkswagen Golf.

A motorhome in minutes

In the case of the Swiss Room Box it is different - when selling a car and buying a new one, of a different brand, you can take your camping equipment with you and it is very likely that it will fit another vehicle. This is possible because the sizes of the individual modules are adjustable . For example, a double (or single) bed can be placed at different heights, and its length can also be adjusted.

Another distinguishing feature is a convenient system of unfolding and moving individual modules. Appropriate indentations act as rails on which it is easy to move "blocks". The manufacturer claims that it will take about 3 minutes to unfold the basic set . More extensive options require 10 minutes, and the richest ones may require 30 minutes of work.

Installing the modules does not require any work with the use of tools or any interference with the car's structure. Only in the case of the most extensive packages, it is necessary to connect one additional cable to the battery.

A week without worries

If we want to use a passenger car as a motorhome, the problem may be the availability of electricity. The manufacturer of the RoomBox solution ensures that when using the basic package, which mainly includes a water heater, the use of a standard car battery should be enough to spend a week at the campground (without starting the car). If there are more devices, this time may be shortened to several days. With a high demand for electricity, you can use portable solar panels, an additional battery or a charger (available in some sets).

The manufacturer ensures that it is not possible for the battery to run out to such an extent that the car cannot be restarted. This is ensured by a special system that cuts off the power supply to camping devices when the voltage reaches the critical level of 11 volts .

Conveniently and with many options

Module kits are available in a variety of configurations for passenger cars and vans. Each version allows accommodation for one or two people. However, if we want to provide a place to sleep for four or even five people, this is also possible. For this purpose, the set should be equipped with a tent mounted on the roof . There are many options for retrofitting the set.

The cheapest set - RoomBox free Tech - designed for passenger cars, costs approx. PLN 2,000. Swiss francs. This is the equivalent of approx. 7 thousand. PLN . The version for a larger car costs approx. 2,700 francs, which in PLN will give approx. 9,000 zlotys. In return, however, we get a highly flexible system, and we do not have to buy a separate caravan or motorhome.

We can carry the camping system with us in the car, even when we do not use it. This is easier because the RoomBox takes up 25 to 50% of the car's luggage space . The modules also do not hinder the use of the second row of seats in the car.
