The central part of Italy, on the Adriatic Sea, is occupied by the extremely diverse region of Abruzzo. There are three National Parks, the Abruzzo Region Park, thirty nature reserves, and beautiful, historic towns such as L'Aquila, Pescara and Roseto degli Abruzzi. It is a real paradise for lovers of nature, history and monuments.

Abruzzo is often called the green region of Europe , and for Italians it is also a "bridge" connecting the southern and northern parts of their homeland. The area is rich in virgin lands, covered with numerous forests, high peaks of the Alps, and the coast with sandy beaches stretches for 130 km . Among these amazing landscapes of Abruzzo you will find many charming towns where you can not only relax, but also admire the amazing architecture from many centuries ago and feel that the history of Italy and Europe is at your fingertips.

Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga - a landscape that amazes

Our journey through Abruzzo begins with the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park , which lies on the border of Abruzzo, the Arconian Marches and Lazio, including the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif and the Monti della Laga mountain range, from which the park got its name. The area is famous for hiking and in winter it is a perfect place for skiers.

In addition to the magnificent landscape, the park is rich in unique, protected birds and mammals . This is where you can see the Apennine chamois, whose population on Gran Sasso currently numbers only 200 individuals. It is also home to many species of birds that die in other regions of Europe, such as ortolans, garbage, field pipit, rock sparrows, and red-backed birds.

The charm of historic L'Aquila

The capital of Abruzzo - L'Aquila is located in the National Park. It is a must see for all lovers of monuments and history enthusiasts. The most important buildings in the city are mainly churches - the Duomo cathedral from the 13th century , the church of San Bernardino da Siena built in 1472 and the Romanesque church of Santa Maria di Collemaggio located just outside the city, erected in the years 1270-1280.

In L'Aquila, it is also worth seeing Forte Spagnolo Castle , built in 1534, which is now the seat of the National Museum of Abruzzo. The Luminosa Fountain is also eagerly admired by tourists. Ancient monasteries and numerous castles can be found in the vicinity of the city, incl. Rocca Calascio.

Walk the streets of Pescara

When visiting Abruzia, you cannot miss the coastal town of Pescara , which lies at the mouth of the river of the same name into the Adriatic Sea. It is not only an important port, but also a tourist destination and town, where we can see many interesting monuments.

An unusual place in Pescara is the Museo delle Genti d'Abruzzo (literally: Abruzzo People's Museum), where we can learn about the history of the local culture over as many as 6,000 years. It is also worth visiting the museum and the municipal library as well as the museum dedicated to the writer and politician Gabriel d'Annunzio from Pescara (his most famous novel is "The Triumph of Death"). In Pescara, it is also worth visiting the local theaters and operas , especially the most famous Teatro Michetti .

A visit to Roseto degli Abruzzi

"The Place of Roses" , or Roseto degli Abruzzi, is another stop on our trip. In this town we can find beautiful nature and valuable monuments. Roseto is not only a very popular seaside resort in Abruzzo, but also a town steeped in history. Its origins date back to Roman times. Today, we can admire many wonderful monuments there, such as medieval fortifications, the bell tower of the Church of S. Antimo, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta from the end of the 16th century with a magnificent wooden altar with figures of saints and prophets. On the other hand, nature lovers will be delighted with the local olive trees, which are estimated to be even 500 years old .

In Roseto degli Abruzzi, we can also take a break from our hike and just relax for a few days. This place attracts tourists with sandy beaches, clean sea and a well-developed tourist base. In Roseto degli Abruzzi we can find, among others highly appreciated by guests for friendly service, great organization and cleanliness of Camping Village Eurcamping . The resort offers comfortable holiday homes , equipped with a kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, air conditioning and a patio. The camping also offers plots with sanitary and electricity connections.

The resort is very child-friendly for children who can spend time in the playground, enjoy sports activities in the volleyball, football and basketball courts or play ping-pong, tennis and Italian bowling. Adults can sunbathe on the nearby beach, engage in water sports, or choose the outdoor pool and wellness area.
