The slogan "holidays in Croatia" has been lighting up the faces of tourists chasing sun and good fun for over a decade. And it's hardly surprising - the Balkan culture, known for its eternal readiness for fun, toasts and singing - meshes perfectly with ours.

Therefore, just like our parents in the early '90s, we always land on the Adriatic Sea in the middle of summer and during the hottest days to release the energy accumulated all year long behind the desk. Since over the years we have probably visited all the Balkan cities, forts and remains of Roman cities, we decided to spend this special summer not on classic sightseeing, but on exploring the secrets of the sea depths. As underwater experts, we chose Losinj as our diving base - probably the best place in this part of Europe for lovers of undersea adventures.

Losinj – Croatian underwater paradise

The holiday in Losinj, planned for over a year, was supposed to be the culmination of our previous experiences with European deep-sea diving. The island has enjoyed an excellent reputation among deep-sea enthusiasts for years - mainly due to the variety of attractions that can be found by gradually immersing yourself in the cool waters of the Adriatic Sea. Over 20 reefs , three huge wrecks and what excited us the most - four large caves , which provided everyone with the amount of adrenaline and difficulties for which they were mentally and physically prepared.

Descending in tandems to a depth of 45 meters, we could admire the whole wealth of underwater life - gorgonians floating next to us, called "Venus' fans", crabs hiding in narrow crevices and... extremely curious octopuses. Wandering among the sunken ships turned out to be equally fabulous - The almost 100-year-old remains of "Etnea" were an excellent warm-up before the expedition to the remains of the ship "Amsterdam", which, due to their location at a depth of 45 meters, are visited only by experienced divers. We finished our underwater tour of Croatia as we like best - in the darkness of caves, which are apparently some of the most interesting in the entire region. The famous "Great" cave delighted us even more than we expected. Great visibility and natural lighting allowed us to admire every detail of this undersea cathedral and enjoy its beauty.

Accommodation

Familiar with the pros and cons of various accommodations in Croatia, we decided to give up a typical hotel stay in favor of something completely new for us - camping. Encouraged by what most centers of this type in the region guarantee - contact with nature, modern amenities and the promise of peace and quiet - we decided that it might be worth a try. And, as it turned out, rightly so! Campsites in Croatia are ideal for active people who want independence and the opportunity to relax in the bosom of nature. While in Losinj, we chose the Baia Holiday Camping Village Poljana , which is located at the very end of the island, washed by clean sea waters on both sides. Due to the nature of our escapade, we couldn't help but appreciate that it was only 200 meters from the campsite to the shore, and the pebble beach at the end of the walk was exceptionally clean and well-kept. We loved morning kayaking trips along the jagged, rocky coast, after which we went for breakfast in an atmospheric Balkan restaurant or to a fast food restaurant. Of course, we spent the afternoons diving, and the evenings - integrating during attractions organized by the animators or over a social glass of rakia...
