Krk - a trip to the Golden Island
Krk is the largest island in Croatia. In ancient times it was called the Golden Island. It is surrounded by the blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, which, combined with the varied coastline and mild Mediterranean climate, creates an attractive place to rest. The Golden Island also has picturesque, historic towns such as Njivice or Krk, which carry the same name as the island.
The island of Krk is situated in the northern part of the Kvarner Bay. Its area is 409.9 km2. The island is characterized by a mild climate and rich vegetation - there are nearly 1,400 species of plants there. The northern and southern parts of Krk abound in rock terraces and pastures, while the central and western parts are mainly arable fields, olive groves and vineyards. The largest administrative center of the island, as well as its political and economic center, is the city of Krk . Along the Adriatic coast line you will find many attractive port and tourist towns , such as Njivice.
Rest on the island of Krk
The island of Krk is a popular destination for tourists. The clean and well-prepared beaches are appreciated there, of which as many as 14 have been awarded the "Blue Flag" certificate. The island is also distinguished by its unusual flora and fauna. One of the peculiarities of Krk is the European Griffon Vulture Reserve . Krk attracts enthusiasts of active recreation in the bosom of nature - there are over 300 km of well-maintained bicycle paths and hiking trails. You can also do water sports there, e.g. wakeboarding, water skiing, etc.
One of the extremely picturesque towns of the Golden Island is Njivice . It is a small tourist town, distinguished by its climatic, peaceful center and gravel and concrete beaches. Njivice is an ideal place for lovers of water sports and excursion enthusiasts . In addition, in the vicinity of this town, right by the sea, is the charming and peaceful Aminess Atea Camping Resort (former Camping Njivice) . The proximity of the sea and the beach, and the vicinity of Njivice and other towns, makes it possible for us to rest there comfortably and go on an attractive trip to one of the surrounding towns.
The camping offers many attractions for guests, incl. numerous guided hikes , animation program, etc. You can relax there in the beauty salon or in the fitness room. People who like to spend time actively will definitely use the gym, horse riding or choose one of the many water sports available there. Children have at their disposal a playground , mini golf and animators who organize games and activities for the youngest.

Gourmets will have the opportunity to taste there mainly fresh fish and seafood with the addition of local olive oil and fresh vegetables. Krk's specialty is presnac - a dish prepared on the basis of goat cheese.
Sights of Krk
The city of Krk has a special charm. Its atmospheric streets and historic buildings blend in perfectly with the seaside landscape. The Adriatic coast in this part of the island is diverse - there are both quiet coves and gentle hills. A big attraction of the city of Krk is the complex of historic cathedrals and churches . Additionally, in some parts of the historic center you can admire the ruins from Roman times. It is worth seeing the 12th-century Romanesque cathedral , which is one of the most beautiful monuments in the city, as well as the Franciscan monastery , which was formerly part of the northern city walls. We will also find the church of St. Grysogonus (Sv. Krsevan) from the 11th-12th centuries and the Saint Donat chapel with a unique shape from the first half of the 12th century.
When visiting Krk, you must see the small square of the old town , which you can reach from the yacht port along a beautiful avenue filled with tall trees. In and around the main square of the old town, there are cafes, bars, pastry shops and restaurants. While in Krk, it is also worth seeing the temple of Venus , the 12th-century town hall and Kaštel - a fortress of the Croatian Frankopan family, built between the 12th and 14th centuries.
