Rome Marathon

For several years now, a marathon has been held in Rome on a regular basis, in which up to several thousand participants take part.

Every year, on an April morning, a crowd of several thousand gathers on the streets of Rome to run the 42 km route , which includes as many as 350 monuments . Marathon di Roma is extremely popular among both experienced marathoners and running enthusiasts. The beginning of this event was related to the popularization of sport and tourist promotion of the city. Today it is one of the most important marathons in the world . Formalities for marathon participants

Marathon di Roma is a sports event that takes place in the vicinity of the most famous monuments of Rome, which adds extra flavor to it. Thanks to this card, we will become members of FIDAL (Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera), the Italian Athletics Association. The cost of the Run Card is 15 euros. You can use it for 8 months. We receive the card in the form of a PDF file to the e-mail address. Run Card is required to pick up the starter pack.

Each participant of the Rome marathon must perform the following tests : spirometry, urine and blood, ECG, post-exercise EKG / stress test. The results should be sent to the marathon organizers using a special form. After approval, we receive the bib number by e-mail.

The unusual route of the race

The Rome Marathon is, above all, an unusual running route that leads through the very center of the city near many famous monuments. On the day of the race, traffic is stopped in the streets that are part of the marathon route, and hundreds of Romans and tourists cheer on the marathon runners. The marathon route is not easy because Rome is a city on seven hills. This makes the competitors have to prepare for difficult ascents .

The start is on Via dei Fori Imperiali . Marathon participants cross the Tiber several times. During the marathon, they can see the Spanish Square and Steps, the Pyramid of Cestius, Piazza del Popolo, Quirinal, Circo Massimo, Roman basilicas and many churches. 18 km of the route is the representative Via della Conciliazione, from which competitors run to St. Peter's Square. Another important point of the marathon is the Olympic Stadium (25 km). After exceeding 35 kilometers, the marathon route takes participants back to the old part of Rome, where you can admire wonderful monuments. Before the finishing line, the competitors still have a difficult part - the loop around the Capitol Hill. The end of the race is on Fori Imperiali.
