The charms of the province of Grosseto
Grosseto is both a town and a province located in the central part of Italy, in the Tuscany region. The area stretches from the slopes of the Colline Metallifere to the border with Lazio. There we will see the diverse landscape of the Maremma and the coastline between the Gulf of Follonica and the mouth of the Chiarone River. The province can be proud of a centuries-old history - its origins date back to the Middle Ages. Until recently, Grosseto was considered the ugliest corner of Tuscany, as it was dominated by swamps and quagmire . It was only Mussolini who had the order to drain and cover the wetlands. Since then, the region has started to develop and expand. There are still plenty of wildlife spots there, such as the Parco Naturale della Maremma e Monti dell'Uccellina or the Laguna Orbetello Nature Reserve . The province of Grosseto is also full of historical artifacts, you can see the remains of Etruscan settlements , Spanish fortresses, and the ruins of Roman villas.
