Lake District
Which place in Europe are visited by almost 18 million tourists from all over the world each year? Where are the lakes, forests, glacial valleys and mountains with built-in stone villages? In the northwest of England, in the 55 km2 part of the National Park, stretches the Lake District - the Lake District. It is famous for its picturesque, treeless views of slightly mountainous meadows, among which nature has scattered narrow moraine lakes and stone dumps. It is a beautiful, exceptionally picturesque region with 16 lakes among the steep slopes of the mountains. The largest are Windermere (also the largest and deepest lake in England), Derwentwater, as well as Thirlmere and Bassenthwaithe. According to many people, the Lake District ranks second on the list of the most beautiful places in England - just behind the Scottish Highlands it is considered the most beautiful place on the island.
