Nouvelle-Aquitaine is the largest region in France by area, with the capital in Bordeaux. The other largest cities in the region are Bayonne, Limoges, Poitiers, Pau and La Rochelle. It is one of the most economically attractive areas in France, which in terms of demographic dynamics exceeds the Paris agglomeration of Île-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The region's popularity among tourists is determined by the mild and sunny climate, sandy beaches stretching as far as the horizon, high waves appreciated by surfing enthusiasts and a number of world-famous vineyards. To fully experience the atmosphere of this region, choose a campsite or camping – Aquitaine is the perfect place to sleep under the stars!
Nouvelle-Aquitaine boasts extraordinary natural values and historical heritage that make it a major tourist destination in France. Vacationers are attracted especially by the wide ocean coast with three main resorts: Arcachon, Biarritz and Royan. New Aquitaine's highly erosive coastline remains quite wild and some resorts such as Soulac-sur-Mer, Lacanau, Hourtin, Biscarrosse, Mimizan and Capbreton have been built on dunes, similar to those located on Arcachon Bay. Tourists also come here for winter sports centers located in the heart of the Pyrenees, such as Gourette and Le Somport, and famous historical sites such as the Lascaux caves, the medieval city and wine mecca of Saint-Émilion, or the Oradour-sur-Glane memorial.
Bordeaux – probably everyone knows this name associated with wine. The famous wine region is located right here in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Viticulture is a key economic sector in this French region. There are some of the most prestigious vineyards in the world – apart from Bordeaux, there are also Bergerac, Cognac (Cognac and Pineau des Charentes) and Armagnac (Armagnac and Floc de Gascogne). Grapevines are also grown in the Garonne and Lot valleys and on the slopes of the Pyrenees.
