Italian Lakes – which are what?

Italian Lakes are a group of large lakes located on the southern side of the Alps, in the basin of the Po River and the Mediterranean Sea. They are mainly located in northern Italy, but also partly in southern Switzerland. They are all postglacial reservoirs, formed after the retreat of glaciers at the end of the last ice age. The group includes lakes: Orta, Maggiore, Varese, Lugano, Como, Iseo, Idro and Garda. The largest are Garda, Maggiore and Como, respectively.

Beautiful weather guaranteed

The climate of the Italian Lakes is very pleasant and mild. Especially in the holiday season, you can enjoy nice, sunny weather here. It has a sub-Mediterranean climate, which makes it the warmest area in Switzerland and northern Italy. Subtropical plants grow in many places, especially on the Borromean and Brissago islands. An interesting fact is that Lake Lugano is one of the few places in Switzerland where olives are grown.
