When we think of Italian lakes, we usually think of Garda, Como and Maggiore. However, these are not the only lakes worth noting. Idro is distinguished by its high location and lush nature surrounding it, which in some places seems untouched by human hands. There are definitely fewer tourists here, so especially those looking for blissful peace and quiet will find their place here.
The postglacial lake of Idro is located in the Brescia region on the border with Trento, at an altitude of 368 meters. It is one of the highest lakes in Lombardy. It covers an area of about 11 km², and its maximum depth reaches 122 meters. In the 1920s, it was one of the first Italian lakes of Idro to be regulated by an artificial dam. The approximately 24 km long coastline is divided between four municipalities: Idro (which gave the lake its name), Anfo, Bagolino and Bondone. The lake is surrounded by wooded mountains.
When choosing a campsite or camping by Idro, we can be sure of a few things. First of all, we will be accompanied by beautiful views every day. Due to its location among mountain peaks, the lake looks like a picture postcard. Secondly, it is quieter here than, for example, on Lake Garda, which is more sunk in the minds of many tourists. This means that Lake Idro is a great base for families with children and the elderly, or just those who dream of a break away from the hustle and bustle of large tourist centers.
