About 250 kilometers from the border with Poland is Eger, a Hungarian city famous for high-quality wine. In autumn, the air smells special in it, because then the grape harvest season approaches, celebrated by both the inhabitants and the crowds of tourists visiting the city. The landmark of Eger, its symbol, is the fortress visible from afar. Regardless of which side we enter the city from, we will see it first. Solid, high walls spread over a steep hill catch the eyes of tourists. It was thanks to the castle that the city was able to defend itself in the 13th century against the invasions of enemy troops - since then, the Eger fortress is for Hungary what Częstochowa is for Poles.

Dominated by the landscapes of lakes and vast forests, interspersed here and there with high hills (including Himmelbjerget, which is one of the highest in the country), wrapped in a trail of the longest Danish river (Gudenå), it delights with its tranquility. Living here is a luxury, literally and figuratively - being able to enjoy such close contact with nature comes at a high cost of living. Austrian Tyrol has been attracting crowds of tourists for years, regardless of the season. One of the most beautiful regions in Tyrol is the Pitztal valley , which wraps itself around like a giant cradle around the Pitze River. It is located in the Ötztal Alps, and stretches approximately 40 km south of the Inn Valley. Its main centers are: St. Leonhard im Pitztal, Jerzens, Wenns and Arzl im Pitztal. From all these places, it is easy to reach the county seat, Imst . The valley is known mainly for the complex of ski resorts on the Pitztal Glacier (Pitztaler Glacier), but everyone - not only skiers - will find the best option for spending their free time there. It is a great place for Nordic walking or family sightseeing trips , as well as a huge field for extreme hiking enthusiasts or alpine climbing enthusiasts. People who crave mountain landscapes will be satisfied with both the views and the ease of access to them, thanks to the mountain railways running to Hochzeiger or Rifflsee.

Four Seasons Imst

The Atlantic Pyrenees, also known as the Western Pyrenees, is a beautiful department in the southwest of France. It is made up of the historic province of Béarn and the French part of the Basque Country, and its prefecture is the city of Pau. As a cross-border mountain range located on the border between Spain and France, the Atlantic Pyrenees are quite a tourist attraction - a strong point on the map of Europe for all lovers of raw nature and active recreation. For some, the range resembles the Alps a bit (due to limestone ridges and deep valleys), and among the many advantages of the region are the abundance of forests and the number of generally accessible shelters and huts. It is impossible to ignore the freedom of camping and lighting fires. A tourist who has decided to spend a vacation in the Atlantic Pyrenees will feel fully connected with nature. Both the French and Spanish parts of the range are geologically and biologically diverse. In the north, deciduous forests predominate, many of which have their original character - the last representatives of the Pyrenean bears can be found there. In turn, the southern part, due to better sunlight, is covered with more species of thermophilic flora, and conifers are dominant among trees. Compared to the northern part, there are also more pastures here. The villages are located at the foot of the mountains and in the lower parts of the valleys. The main tourist traffic is concentrated under the Pierre Saint Martin passes (Arette la Pierre Saint Martin resort) and Somport (Candanchu resort). In other parts of the region, it is rather small, so visitors can enjoy a comfortable contact with nature. The downside of hiking along this range is poor marking of the routes, which can be difficult for inexperienced tourists, as is the lack of signposts at some trail crossings.

Atlantic Pyrenees - the treasure of (two) nations

It would seem that it is difficult to compete for tourists, being the only province in the country without access to the sea. Meanwhile, Spanish Lleida, located in the western part of Catalonia, does not have to be ashamed that there is nothing to make up for. Because it does, and it does. The location of the Lleida province is a great asset for a tourist wishing to intensively explore the attractions of Spain . What can we say about its capital? Lleida (Lérida) is not as famous and popular as Zaragoza, let alone Barcelona, but it is growing very fast. Located on the banks of the River Segre, it is an important scientific and commercial center, and has good rail connections. After relaxing in Barcelona, tourists often pass through Lleida on their way deep into the Iberian Peninsula. The main attractions of the city are two cathedrals - the 13th-century Catedral de la Seu Vella, with a tall tower and courtyard with 17 huge arches, and the newer, baroque Catedral Nueva. It does not make such an impression as the older temple towering over Lleida, but it is also worth seeing. The old town hugs the hill with the Catedral de la Seu Vella visible from a distance and hugs the right bank of the river. Parallel to Segre runs the representative shopping street - Carrer Major, while on the other side of the river is the Cappont district, where the new university campus is located. While strolling through the streets of Lleida, it is worth taking a closer look at the ancient gate to the city, the Gardena Castle, built by the Templars, as well as the magistrate building, i.e. the Paerii Palace, built in Romanesque style. Approx. 27 km away is Belaguer , an interesting town with an Arab and Jewish quarter, the castle of the Counts of Urgel and Gothic temples. It's nice to get lost in the tangle of narrow medieval streets.

In the heart of Catalonia - Lleida

Usually, visiting museums sounds not very interesting to children and teenagers. What can be interesting about walking through rooms filled with objects that cannot be touched and listening to the (often) monotonous voice of the guide? There is a place where a trip to the past is not only not boring - it will engage every child, guaranteeing them a great adventure. This place is not far away at all, it is waiting for little guests here, in Poland, in Malbork. Imagine a trip to the medieval castle where the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights and his knights lived hundreds of years ago. At the beginning you receive special knight's hoods and wax tablets. The letters written on them will create a Latin maxim that will need to be translated into Polish at the end of the journey. During the expedition, you will meet a lady with a harp, a mint master and an ambersmith, and you will follow a guide dressed in an ancient costume. Discovering the secret of the castle will not be easy - the task is interrupted by a clown trying to distract your attention. At the end of the journey, you will meet the Grand Master and the monastic knights, and you will receive a special certificate, proof of being the discoverer of the castle's secrets. Doesn't such a trip sound attractive? It is not associated with moving one foot at a time from one room to another - on the contrary, the "Secrets of Malbork Castle" route arouses great interest among visitors. This is a completely different way to learn about history, as well as the opportunity to test your skills in crossbow and bow shooting, or your accuracy in throwing a spear and axe. There are more applicants than places, so it is not surprising that long queues form during the period in which it is organized (May 1 - September 30). You can go on the route every day except Monday, between 10:00 and 11:30. After leaving the interior of the castle, it is worth going to the nearby Żuławy Ceramic Village, where at one of the Artistic Crafts points you can see how easy it is to make something out of clay yourself. During the workshops, you can leave your child under the care of the instructor.

Family trip to Malbork

Hungarian cycling routes will satisfy every cyclist. There are many of them and they lead through beautiful regions - for example, the route around Lake Balaton or Szombathely, along the Tisza and Danube, the Kaposvár-Siklós route or finally EuroVelo, which is part of the European Cycle Route Network, can be used. The vast majority of routes extend through relatively easy to overcome plains or small hills, so all you need is beautiful weather and a little willingness to go on a family trip around Hungary . Another attractive route is the Budapest-Velence route, and Budapest itself encourages you to check its interesting points on two wheels. There are special lanes in the streets and bicycle paths at the most important tourist attractions and in the city center. If you asked the average tourist to indicate attractive regions of Poland, his list would probably include the area by the sea, in the mountains or in Masuria (any order). He would rather be surprised if he heard that he would find many interesting places in Silesia. But the average tourist can be forgiven - and you can also point out places that he may not have heard of, and which he now regrets seeing their beauty so late. Such places are, among others Tarnowskie Góry, a town surrounded by water reservoirs and forests on the edge of the Silesian metropolis.

Thanks to its location in the southwestern part of the country, Aquitaine tempts tourists both with beaches on the Atlantic and mountain trips in the Pyrenees. It is important for Christians, many of whom make pilgrimages to Lourdes, the famous sanctuary. Fans of sports shows will not be bored there. And, as befits France, it delights wine connoisseurs - this is where the region with about 8,000 wine estates (châteaus) is located, i.e. the world-famous Bordeaux. We can start the story about Aquitaine with the cuisine, an important element of which is asparagus - because the region is famous for growing it. The menu of local restaurants is filled with fish and seafood dishes. Notable dishes include: salt in wine with seafood, sea mussels or lamprey in vegetables. A popular meal, served in virtually every pub, is cod puree with olive oil and milk - brandade. It will appeal to people who like very salty dishes. Aquitaine cuisine is based on meat. What will we encounter when looking through the menu? Undoubtedly, roasted lamb with thyme, veal schnitzels with truffles or the flagship dish of the region, the Bordeaux entrecote. A tourist who would like to spend a holiday at a campsite in France and get to know this country from the culinary side will certainly pay a lot of attention to wines. Aquitaine boasts Bordeaux, where approximately 850 million bottles of wine are produced each year. White, red, sweet, dry - you will find all types here, for every budget, meeting the requirements of every taste bud.

Pula is the largest city on the Istrian peninsula and one of the most popular (especially among Polish tourists) Croatian resorts. In the distant past, it had a significant military and trade importance in the Mediterranean basin - not only was it one of the strategically important Roman cities, it was also one of the most beautiful. Its position was overthrown only by Venice with its dynamically developing port. Pula has a well-deserved reputation as an exceptionally beautiful city, not only in the northern part of Croatia, but throughout the country. It is called Croatian Rome because of its location on seven hills, and also because of its greatest attraction - the historic amphitheater. It is the third largest facility of this type in the world (after the Colosseum and Arena in Nîmes, France). Interestingly, the marble building has survived to this day in much better condition than the Roman monument. There is a large parking lot right next to it - if you are planning a trip to Croatia by car, it is best to park it in Pula.

Levanto is an attractive town located in the Italian province of La Spezia. Thanks to its small size, it provides both residents and visiting tourists with the opportunity to relax peacefully. Not everyone knows that the town is famous for the strongest waves in Italy, which means that sometimes it is not so quiet here. Levanto is located approximately 60 km from Genoa, while the provincial capital, La Spezia, is approximately 20 km away. It has a nice, extensive bay, partially protected on the south side. Ironically, the tongue of land, which serves as a shield against sea wind attacks, is also the cause of strong waves, sometimes 3-4 meters high. They form mainly in the central part of the bay's waters - its heart. Angry waves are a tasty morsel for daredevils who come here to face the elements and, like a wild horse, try to tame one of them using a surfboard or a sail. When the strongest waves are formed, surfers come to Levanto from all over Europe. Many people planning to spend an active camping holiday in Italy consider this part of the Ligurian coast also because the water here is warm and very clean. We cannot forget about the advantages on land. Levanto boasts a long, sandy beach and lots of greenery - the surrounding areas are densely covered with olive and pine trees.

Slovenia is still treated by some as a bridge or a link between countries, a sort of passage to more interesting places. Wrong, because it offers a lot of attractions on its own - and at favorable prices. They include, among others delicious white wines, pumpkin seed oil, as well as hot spring baths and truly Tuscan views. In the northeastern part of the country, right on the border, lies Prlekija, a region whose heart is the city of Ljutomer. It stretches from the rivers Drawa and Mura, from the village of Gornja Radgonja to Ormož. It is the kingdom of white wine, a picturesque area of vineyards covered with hills that reminds many people of Tuscany. A holiday in Slovenia , especially in this part, will mean visiting wineries, getting to know the flavors of local food and making contacts with the locals. They are characterized by openness and sociability, qualities which - according to legends - contributed to changing the plans of the first apostles along with wine. Instead of going on and preaching the Gospel, they preferred to stay here and grow vines. It is not without reason that the village, whose surroundings are considered the most beautiful wine landscapes of Slovenia, is called Jerusalem . It catches the eye with the red roofs above the stone houses and the gleam of the facades of temples decorating the elevations. If we come to Slovenia in spring, it is worth visiting the municipality of Veržej, which extends on the right bank of the Mur. It is especially delightful in the months when nature comes to life, covering itself with carpets of white narcissus. Tourists associate Prlekija with a characteristic landscape feature called klopotec. It is a wooden structure resembling a windmill, and its role is to deter birds from grapevine plantations.
